The government meeting, which was signed off on Tuesday night, again returned late to the routine of recent days, and this was due to secret efforts behind the scenes to prolong the life of Prime Minister Fatos Nano by a few more hours, who now appears to be politically “overthrown”. Newspaper sources said yesterday that the government meeting had discussed with great concern the popular protests that have broken out in Tirana and in several cities across the country. According to the same sources, Nano appeared alarmed by the scale of the reactions against him and asked for time to regain ground. He gave the impression that he needed only a little time to get through this situation, but most of the ministers were skeptical. The alarm of the prime minister and other representatives of the ruling majority increased after the protest of the opposition in Tirana, but also in the districts, took on a massive character. According to sources from the government meeting, it was indirectly acknowledged that the protest had gained broad dimensions and that public opinion could no longer be sold the propaganda of stability.

Fatos Nano, by all appearances, is trying to find a way out by using unconstitutional instruments as his government is losing control. In political circles yesterday, the intervention in the justice bodies and the recent moves in the General Prosecutor’s Office were also widely commented on. The opposition has considered these actions as desperate attempts to delay Nano’s inevitable political end.

In the latest developments, the political situation has further escalated because of criminal घटनाएं, which the opposition links to the climate of insecurity and the dysfunction of the state. In several areas of Tirana, serious acts of violence have been recorded, while citizens have expressed fear and anger. The events of recent days have strengthened the belief that the country is in a deep political and institutional crisis.
